Boys of Fall (Performed by Zachery Veilleux) - August Burns Red
So I know a lot of people that don’t like metal, at all. That don’t consider it music or at least good music. So I’ll ask my friends/whoever for specifics on why. The biggest complaint always seems to be the redundancy of the riffs or the inability to understand the vocals. Some people are like “Well it just doesn’t have much of a tune, you know?” No. No I dont know. How can you say this doesn’t have a tune?!
This is probably a weird post for you guys to read but its kind of what I’ve been thinking about lately. Metal, while I understand it can set too intense of a tone (I can’t really play it at work because of how my coworkers react…), has a beautiful complexity. The guitar is so intricate and beautiful, full of emotion and thought.
To prove this, I’ve posted a piano version of one of my favourite metal songs. All its doing is copying the guitar you guys. This is what metal sounds like voiced through another instrument. It’s just a beautiful and just as powerful. It’s gorgeous and can be as lovely and meaningful as any other music genre.
Should I pay for a Spotify account? I desperately want one…. but I’m not sure, I’m a little bit of a tightwad and I feel mostly content with my music situation right now. What are your thoughts?
Home from work and moved out of my parents house (actually to my parents basement. I just wanted to type that sentence out and pretend) and I can listen to the new Thrice song to my hearts content. Listen/Download (the band gave it out for FREE!) here: http://www.chinashopmag.com/2011/07/exclusive-download-thrice-yellow-belly/
Lump Sum (Daytrotter)- Bon Iver
I fell in love with this song with an intense passion over my weekend boating/family drama trip.
I was trying to sleep/testing out my new headphones (not the best combination if you are really trying to sleep), and so I put on something I knew I could relax and unwind to. When this song came on, it was so inspiring and beautiful… It was that rare feeling you get from music where you’re in a completely different world surrounded by the most beautiful sounds and perspectives.
Go listen to like The Smile, The Face or The Cheval Glass or Do the Things (You Want) or Thoughtlife and tell me yours doesn’t do the same.
It’s like an excitement/eargasm (sorry no other word for it)/nauseousness that feels really good feeling. Does anyone else get this?
